FTI’S POST SOUND PRODUCTION WORKSHOP WITH KIM LORD Is a first hand look into the concepts and processes that make up Sound Post Production in film and television environments with Location Recordist, Lecturer and re-recording mixer Kim Lord.
This workshop will offer awareness and understanding to those who are directly involved in the filmmaking process but not specifically in sound. Held in a contemporary mixing environment, examples of post production will be shown to support the guided discussion and demonstrate relevance. Participants will have opportunities throughout the day to share their own experiences/hurdles in order to troubleshoot and seek solutions.
FTI’s Post Production Sound Workshop topics include;
- What does Post Production mean?
- Assessing the Film by listing and addressing its needs
- Managing a post schedule
- How useable is the Dialogue? -What are your options if it’s not?
- Sound Effects - When to use sound effects, where to find good quality ones and the best ways to store/categorise and reuse them.
- Foley- Do you need it? Should you record it? And how
- Managing music choices
- Professional/preferred track layouts
- Recording a good quality narration
- Sound mixing- what is it? What environment is best? What takes place in the mix?
Deliverables- How to examine, work to and meet them.
About the Tutor: Kim Lord is a Re-Recording Mix Engineer, a Location Sound Engineer and an established Lecturer. Recently retiring from his position as the head of Television Sound Post Production at the ABC.
Kim has 40 continuous years experience in the film and tv industries both as mixer and as location recordist and for the past twenty years has been lecturing and preparing targeted training packages to industry and tertiary institutions, his reputation extends to all significant production houses across Australia with his work found regularly on all channels of television.
He established a state-of-the-art scoring stage for the film, television and motion picture industries at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Studios in Perth, and is frequently recognised and awarded Nationally by the AACTA (AFI) and locally through the WA Screen Awards. He has been a Grand Jury judge for the AACTA (AFI) since 2014.
Kim is currently mixing ‘Outback Truckers’ season 5.
