Learn acting techniques for camera and take home a screen test of your scene
This is a beginners course- No acting experience necessary, applicants need only bring a bunch of excitement for the possibilities of acting for screen.
FTI's Acting for Camera course is  facilitated by award winning film maker Dr Damien Spiccia and will feature guest lectures from actor Nick Harle and cinematographer Simon Akkerman ACS (My Name Is Grace, Master and Commander).
On Saturday March 25th (Day one): Damien will share methods for emerging actors to become less intimidated within the parameters of screen acting and cover film theories from Mike Leigh and Andy Warhol.  Guest lecturer, actor,  Nick Harle will share his experiences and techniques on how to get the best out of your character (preparation, research and rehearsals), how to work with directors harmoniously, audtitions (and what is expected), 'actors marks' (and why they are important on set), finding your light and the importance of screen tests. Day one will also include exercises on taking direction (without taking it to heart.)
On Sunday March 26th (Day two): Damien will offer strategies on how to maximise the truth of any scene through clever camera intuition. The class will be joined by a professional cinematographer,  Simon Akkerman  ACS who will detail how actors are framed by different shots sizes, camera angles and focal lengths by demonstrating some of the ways cinematographers can dramatically change the stage for performers by changing the frame. In the afternoon participants will get a chance to act in front of the camera by writing, rehearsing and performing a short scene in a studio environment. Participants will have the opportunity to put the weekends strategies into practice with help from Damien's directions. Students will leave with copies of their screen tests for their showreels.
