VIRTUAL REALITY, AUGMENTED REALITY AND GAMES WORKSHOP
WITH FTI’S DIRECTOR OF GAMES & INTERACTIVE
KATE RAYNES-GOLDIE AND STIRFIRE STUDIOS
The smartphone has changed the way we communicate, shop, watch, think and play. Now, virtual reality and augmented reality are set to transform our lives and disrupt industries around the world. Pokémon Go is only the tip of the iceberg – virtual and augmented reality will radically transform everything from entertainment and training to tourism. The games industry is already a little-known economic powerhouse, worth $100 billion globally – more than Hollywood.
Join game designer and entrepreneur Dr Kate Raynes-Goldie in this intensive hands-on workshop, where you will gain direct insight into the future of games. You will think and see the world like a game designer, learn about the most exciting virtual and augmented-reality game projects, and even try your hand at Stirfire Studios’ locally created VR game, Symphony of the Machine. There are limited spaces, so book soon.
About the speaker: Dr Kate Raynes-Goldie is the Director of the Games and Interactive Program at FTI. Recently honoured as WAITTA Incite’s Achiever of the Year and as one of MCV Pacific’s most influential women in games for the second year running, Kate is a champion of innovation and diversity in Western Australia. A game designer, researcher and entrepreneur, Kate has spoken around the world, including at TEDxPerth, SXSW and PAX Australia. Kate is a graduate of the CFC (Canadian Film Centre) Media Lab’s prestigious Interactive Art and Entertainment program. She is also an Adjunct Research Fellow at Curtin University, where she completed her PhD. Kate is also hosting the Virtual reality, augmented reality and games workshop.
