16 June 2010
Revelation Perth International Film Festival 8-18 July 2010
Short Courses
The most unique film festival in Australia has announced its 2010 RevCon program, and is offering most of the available talks and panels for no cost to participants over the two weekends of the festival. RevCon in 2010 will also be held mostly at the Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley for the first time.
Designed to engage the critical and creative sectors with issues, approaches and perspectives that examine international independent practice, RevCon is an ‘ideas market’ that brings together a range of high level industry participants from the creative, cultural and business sectors. RevCon offers filmmakers the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most progressive independent directors, producers and writers who make up this year’s guest contingent.
In 2010, Revelation brings acclaimed indie filmmaker Jon Reiss to Australia to present his renowned workshop ‘Think Outside the Box Office: A Guide to Distributing and Marketing Your Film’. A full day workshop, participants are invited to submit an outline of their idea, and the best ten will be selected to take part in a second day of one-on-one strategy development within the group setting.
On Saturday 10th of July at the Astor, Author Jim Morton will be providing a free education about the history and culture of the strangest and most visionary films ever produced, touching on sexploitation, grindhouse, and discordant horror movies.
The second weekend of RevCon offers in-depth looks at the state of the independent and Australian film industries. Join Screen Australia’s Head of Production Investment Ross Matthews in a discussion about the state of play of the Australian funding and production environment – and what can be expected in the future. Free admittance on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of July at the Astor Theatre.
