AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT FUND

FTI’s Audience Development Fund is open to one-off events or projects that have the potential to grow into annual events and may in future be eligible for annual grants from ScreenWest’s Screen Culture program.

The Audience Development Fund is to be utilized for event promotion, marketing and/or venue hire. Budgets should properly reflect what this will cost.

Aims of the Audience Development Fund

  • To provide opportunities for newer event managers to curate, program and run successful screen culture programs
  • To foster the development of innovative screen culture projects
  • To enable a diverse range of screen culture projects in Western Australia

Any event that promotes screen product and issues in a critical context, enhances community participation in screen cultural activity or addresses screen policy issues or other trends and developments is eligible.

Screen events must occur within Western Australia and enable participation by Western Australian audiences.

All applicants must be a current FTI member, a WA resident for 6 months prior to submitting the application and must be on the WA electoral roll.

Projects considered include:
• Local and touring film festivals
• One-off screenings
• Regional events
• Curated events
• Talks, seminars and conferences (including visits by interstate and international guests)

The following are NOT eligible for Screen Culture development funding:
• Activities that are associated with a course of study or which take place predominantly in an educational institution
• Purchase of equipment or capital works
• Projects primarily intended for corporate, educational, training or promotional purposes
• Publication costs of film journals, reports, books or magazines

Applications must include:

  • Description of the project
  • Dates and venues
  • Aims and objectives of the project
  • Expected outcomes including audience figures
  • Statement addressing the selection criteria
  • Detailed Budget (including cash and in-kind income and expenditure)
  • Marketing plan
  • CV of the key curator(s)

The final round for 2009 closes at 4pm Friday 30 October.

SCREEN EVENTS ASSISTANCE

FTI will provide the cinema free of charge to the following events:

• Premieres of FTI funded short films
• Premieres of Western Australian content

Please note: events will be required to cover the cost of the projectionist ($40 per hour).

FTI will provide the cinema at a discounted rate (up to 50%) for events that meet the following selection criteria:

• Contribute to the further development, promotion and appreciation of the Western Australian screen industry.
• Increase and develop exhibition opportunities and provide increased audience access to curated screen programs.
• Provides opportunities for critical debate and analysis of screen content and promote Australian screen programs.
• Innovation in delivery and content.

Alternatively, for ticketed events, FTI can offer a profit share scheme. Please contact the Screen Events Manager for further details.

Applications to the Screen Events Assistance Scheme will be accepted in the following rounds:

Round 1: 27 March 2009
Round 2: 29 May 2009
Round 3: 31 July 2009
Round 4: 30 September 2009
Round 5: 27 November 2009
