The FTI Cinema is a popular location for premiere screenings of local films, independent cinema and Australian screen culture.

Our most popular programs are ‘Cinematheque’ that provides a rare opportunity to see important cinema works of yesteryear on the big screen and ‘Meet the Filmmaker’ sessions which bring audiences and artists together.

History
The FTI Cinema opened in April 1974 screening The Battle of Algiers. The National Film Theatre programmed films Monday and Tuesday while the Perth Institute of Film and Television programmed Wednesday to Friday. The Council for Children’s Film and TV Programs, programmed children’s films every Saturday.

Hire the cinema for your screening
The FTI Cinema is available to hire for private screenings, fundraisers, festivals, birthday parties, seminars and training workshops. Go to link for hire costs and projection formats.

    The Australian Red Cross would like to invite audiences to a special screening of War/Dance. The film follows the courageous efforts of the students of Patongo, Northern Uganda, who overcomes the terror of war and pour their hearts into winning Uganda’s most famous music competition. More »

  • Feature Film Screenwriting

    Story is the journey for truth and plot is the path you take to get there. Feature film writing for beginners is a two-day intensive workshop aimed at teaching new writers how to not only structure a feature film script but also create believable characters and create a theme that resonates with an audience. Students will be given a required viewing document so that specific films can be broken down in class and an understanding can be gained as to why these specific stories worked for an audience. Participants will also be given the opportunity to develop their own ideas over the workshop and will be invited to discuss them with the class to try and identify strengths and weaknesses. More »
