The independent feature documentary Three Hams in a Can screens this weekend as part of the 17th Biennale of Sydney, Australia’s largest art festival.
The film programme, curated by Artistic Director David Elliott and author/Revelation Program Director Jack Sargeant, is titled Magickal Songs, Mythical Histories and Fictitious Truths, and focuses on works from around the world which “reflect on spirituality and indigeneity; and on the power of art and its place in traditional culture and contemporary politics.”
The film screens at 3pm on Sunday June 19, at Superdeluxe at Artspace.
Directed by Kenta McGrath, Three Hams in a Can observes the everyday goings-on of three Australian experimental musicians (Chris Cobilis, Predrag Delibasich, Stina Thomas) during their tour of Tokyo. The film takes a minimalist approach to documenting the tour and the strange, yet familiar world the musicians enter. It is part home movie, part music documentary and part meditation on the nature of friendship.
This is the film’s first screening in Australia since the 2009 Revelation International Film Festival; the film recently had its international premiere at the Bradford International Film Festival in the UK. It is a recipient of the ScreenWest Low-Budget Feature Marketing Grant.
