2 March 2010

From ScreenWest

Organisation

As well as showcasing some of our best local shorts, the WA Flickerfest tour will enable local filmmakers the opportunity to have one-on-one meetings with Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd in Perth on Friday March 5.

On tour from its Bondi beach home, Flickerfest – the only short film festival in the country with Academy Award accreditation – screens the most creative and inspirational short films from across the globe, many are Australian and world premieres. A total of 97 Australian and International shorts were officially selected in competition in 2010 from a record 1,600 entries.

The WA Flickerfest Tour will visit these venues in March: Perth 4 -7 March at the Camelot Outdoor Cinema; Broome 12 – 13 March at The Sun Picture Theatre; and for the first time in Albany on 20 March at the Grassy Knoll.

The WA shorts featured in the tour are:

  • Short horror Tinglewood will screen in Perth on March 4 & in Albany on March 20 – directed and co-written by Alex von Hofmann and produced and co-written by Antony Webb
  • Documentary My Uncle Bluey will screen in Perth on March 5 and in Broome on March 12 – written and directed by Britt Arthur and produced by James Grandison
  • WA director Peter Templeman’s short comedy The Saviour is screening in the ‘Oscars Shorts’ program in Perth on March 6
  • Short drama Crossroad will screen March 20 in Albany, on March 13 in Broome and March 7 in Perth – directed & produced by Maziar Lahooti and written by Mike Hoath, executive producer Nathan Elliott

Also screening in Perth, Broome and Albany is the short Australian film Two Men, which was filmed in the Kimberley using local cast and some local crew. Full tour program details are on the Flickerfest “website”:

For the first time, Festival Director Brownyn Kidd has offered to meet one-on-one with WA’s emerging screen talent in Perth on Friday March 5 at the Camelot Outdoor Cinema. This is a great opportunity for emerging filmmakers to learn from Bronwyn’s experience with marketing and distributing short films. In previous years WA filmmakers have gone on to have their films picked up for distribution by Flickerfest as a direct result of meeting with Bronwyn.

Bronwyn is only available from 6-7pm on Friday March 5 so meeting requests will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like to arrange a meeting please contact Jo Hos, Industry & Corporate Affairs Officer by email jo@screenwest.wa.gov.au or by phone (08) 9224 7473.

Flickerfest is proudly supported by ScreenWest, Lotterywest and Screen Australia.
