After a highly successful ten-day Sydney festival of award-winning shorts, Flickerfest is excited to be arriving at the Camelot Outdoor Cinema in Perth on Thursday 4 March with a glamorous opening night party and screening.

As Australia’s premier and only Academy® accredited International Short Film Festival, Flickerfest received over 1600 entries in 2010 with only 97 films chosen for the final competition. The films on the tour are the pick of the crop– all united by their excellence within the short film genre and representing the freshest trends in global cinema – home delivered to Perth!

The four day festival showcases the best of the best of Flickerfest 2010 – from the prestigious and award winning films in the International 1 and 2 Programmes screening on beautiful 35mm film, to the most popular programme at the 2010 Festival – Oscar Shorts; as well as the strong, surprising and highly entertaining Best Of Australian Shorts Programme.

International 1 Programme highlights include: The Clearing (Flickerfest Australian Premiere) starring Damian Walshe-Howling of Underbelly fame and rebellious The Six Dollar Fifty Man (NZ), winner of the Coopers Award for Best Short Film at Flickerfest 2010, which has also just won the prestigious Shorts International Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Flickerfest is Australia’s premier Academy® accredited short film festival, meaning this film is now eligible for Oscar nomination.

The International 2 Programme continues to delight audiences across Australia with highlights of the programme including the film-in film short piece Citizen vs Kane (France) and Australian winner of the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation (Flickerfest 2010) The Cat Piano. Also the Flickerfest Australian premiere of hilarious Argentinian soccer wife-swap comedy Las Pelotas (Switzerland) which takes the idea of “scoring” to a whole new level!

Also screening is the exciting Best of Australian Shorts Programme. Can’t make it all the way to LA for the Oscars this year? Then catch Miracle Fish, winner of this year’s Movie Extra Special Jury Award at Flickerfest, which has just been nominated for the Best Live Action Short Film Oscar at the 2010 Academy Awards!

Other highlights of this programme are Franswa Sharl – which had it’s world premiere at Flickerfest in January, and stars Perth actor Callan McAuliffe. Franswa Sharl has just won a top prize at the Berlinale – the Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film – continuing on from its Australian success after winning the IF Media Award for most Popular Film at Flickerfest 2010. Celestial Avenue, crowd-pleasing winner of the Flickerfest Madman Award for Best Australian Short Film is also a highlight of this programme, and stars Angus Sampson (Thank God You’re Here; Where the Wild Things Are).

With all the buzz surrounding the recent Australian nomination, why not slip into something a bit glam and shimmy up the most dazzling red carpet of programmes – Oscar Shorts – the best Oscar winning and nominated films from the past 2 years in recognition of Flickerfest’s Academy® accredited status.

Highlights include Oscar winners Toyland from Germany and The Mozart of Pickpockets from France, as well as the comical and moving Jehovah’s Witness love story nominee The Saviour from WA director Peter Templeman, Oscar nominated film Presto! from Pixar Studios. Trip the light fantastic with the psychedelic animation I Met the Walrus starring John Lennon from the Beatles.
