11 February 2010

Screenings - Internal

Local filmmakers Zak Hilditch and Liz Kearney, Mel Judkins and Tasha Stephenson are celebrating wins after competing successfully within an international programme for the Best Fremantle Film and People’s Choice awards respectively at Bohemian Shorts: Fremantle’s First Film Competition which screened at Bohemia Outdoor Cinema on Saturday 6 February.

Australian drama The Laundromat won the Best Film prize of $3000.

The local, national and international films were all WA premieres and battled it out for $8,500 in prizes courtesy of the City of Fremantle and Bendigo Bank – Fremantle Community Branch.

The capacity crowd enjoyed documentaries, dramas, comedies and animations before voting by SMS for I Will NOT Be Outbid! a doco on the world of eBay addiction funded through FTI’s Raw Nerve scheme. Those who missed the screening will be able to catch this film at the Raw Nerve Screening & Info Night on Wednesday 17 February.

Arrivals and Departures, a film also nominated for Best Film at the upcoming WA Screen Awards, took out the largest cash prize of $5000.

The Raw Nerve scheme is an initiative of Screen Development Australia (SDA) the national network of screen resource organisations, in conjunction with Screen Australia. The scheme aims to provide first time filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their filmic storytelling ability.
