Local Filmmakers Say Hello to Freo at Bohemian Shorts

FTI announces the finalists in competition at Bohemian Shorts: Fremantle’s First Film Competition screening at Bohemia Outdoor Cinema on Saturday 6 February.

The local, national and international films are all WA premieres and will battle it out for $8,500 in prizes courtesy of the City of Fremantle and Bendigo Bank – Fremantle Community Branch.

Local filmmakers chasing the $5000 prize money attached to the Fremantle Shorts category have filmed on location in Fremantle, including; Hello, It’s Freo, the sequel to internet sensation, This is Perth, by Dan Osborn and Vincenzo Perrella, The Dog And The Stick by Kate Vyvyan, Arrivals and Departures by Zak Hilditch, A Difference Born In Freo by Peter Harris, Dr Freo by Chris Pidgeon and I Will NOT Be Outbid! by Tasha Stephenson and Mel Judkins.

Local film Enemy written and directed by Pete Gleeson and produced by Kate Neylon is in competition for Best Film and the People’s Choice Award.

The Dog And The Stick (Documentary, Fremantle)

The Dog and The Stick is an observational documentary for the whole family. In a disused amphitheatre in Fremantle’s Booyeembara Park, two year old Alfie looks for ways to stop his dog from getting a stick… that is, until the dog can’t get the stick.

The Blue Balloon (Drama, Canada)

A stray blue balloon is spotted at the town square in Aix -En-Provence, belonging to no one, yet, seeking to belong – as perhaps we all are. In a way, we are not much different from the balloon, simply in need to love and to be loved. This short film is filled with symbolic imagery, and conveys a universal story of a blue balloon, in search of a friend… and love!
