West Australian production Bridge Between Two Worlds directed by Shireen Narayanan screens Wednesday 21 October on SBS.
The SBS documentary was produced by Shireen Narayanan and Brian Beaton and charts the remarkable journey of three newly arrived refugee children Filimon, Martin and Mujtaba through the last six months of an intensive English course at Highgate Primary School. Their stories, told from the children’s own perspective, allow an audience unique access into their emotional world.
Bridge Between Two Worlds is a beautifully intimate portrait of their struggles and their triumphs marked by laughter, tantrums and tears. Their journey as they come to terms with a new language and a very unfamiliar society reveals how these children’s infectious enthusiasm and their sheer determination helps them overcome enormous obstacles in their path.
