31 January 2008
Organisation
Director and Producer Costa Botes from New Zealand will deliver the keynote address at the AIDCfringe conference at FTI on February 23rd.
Botes who is a Producer at Lone Pine Film and TV productions was behind one of the most controvertial documentaries to ever air in New Zealand. The mocumentary’Forgotten Silver’ ‘which he made with friend Peter Jackson’ purported the story of pioneering filmmaker Colin McKenzie whose innovations in cinema pre-date those we had historically accepted. When the film was first screened in New Zealand many viewers failed to reliase it was a mocumentary and accepted it as fact.
Botes has also directed the much watched ‘making of’ documentaries for the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.
FTI’s Professional Development and Training Manager, Graeme Watson commented,
We’re really excited to secure Costa Botes as a guest for the AIDCfringe. This one day of inspiration for early career filmmakers will have a stong focus on what documentary is going to be in the future and Costa’s approach to filmmaking is a great example of documentary making that is not in the purist form, but still incredibly thought provoking and challenging.
The AIDCfringe is at FTI the day after the main AIDC event in Fremantle. Other guests include filmmaker Janine Boreland from WA, Katrina Lucas and Mark Anderson from SA and Nicholas Agafonoff from NSW, Charlotte Seymour from the Australian Film Commision, Richard Sowada from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and Director Kylie Boltin.
More interstate guests are expected to be announced within the next week.
