MadFish Animation to Premiere at Sony Tropfest 2008

Tropfest’s major wine sponsor, MadFish Wines, has extended its support of the Australian film industry by commissioning the Film & Television Institute WA (FTI) to create a 30 second Animation that will premiere at Sony Tropfest 2008.

The Flash animated promo about the legend of Madfish Bay has been created by FTI Animation graduate, Clancie Shorter.

The short clip tells the story behind the MadFish brand, which begins in the far southern reaches of Western Australia where 15 kilometres from the quiet coastal town of Denmark is the picturesque Madfish Bay. According to local folklore, the bay’s tranquillity is broken when two tides meet, resulting in schools of small fish going mad and jumping about to avoid being gobbled up by hungry, larger fish.

FTI is one of the oldest independent film schools in Australia, established in 1971, and is the premier professional development and resource centre for independent screen production & events in Western Australia. A member of Screen Development Australia, FTI combines education, exhibition, equipment and production services to provide an alternative pathway to working in the film & television industry. In recent years, a number of FTI members have been selected for the Final 16 shortlist with both Drama and Animated short films.

MadFish Wines are the exclusive wine partner of FTI, supporting the annual Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival, that includes the Sony Tropfest screening. In addition, high profile support will be provided by MadFish at the 21st WA Screen Awards in March as well as at film launches and functions throughout the year.

“The MadFish range of contemporary fruit-driven wines represent fresh, spirited enjoyment and these values, shared by FTI, form the basis of our inspired partnership,” says Jodi Eastman, Brand Manager of MadFish Wines.

“We’re delighted to have such a great partner in MadFish Wines, who are genuinely interested in supporting and developing new screen culture in Australia, plus they make fantastic wine,” said FTI’s Marketing Manager, Jon Cope.
