A new short film JACK IN THE BOX by Film & Television Institute graduate filmmakers will have its world premiere on Thursday 1 July at the FTI Cinema in Fremantle.
Written and directed by Michael Rautao of Floreat, and produced by Kirsten Twining of Darling Downs, the gripping police drama is set in an elevator, with the four central characters trapped together in a tangled web of lies and deceit.
Shot at the FTI production studio, the filmmakers had successfully received $2,000 of production funding through the Australian Film Commission’s RAW NERVE scheme, plus $5,000 worth of equipment and facilities hire from FTI.
“I feel more passionate than ever about pursuing a career in the film and television industry, having just completed the Advanced Diploma in Video Production course at FTI and being successful with our first AFC application,” said Michael Rautao.
Kirsten Twining, recipient of the 2005 Di Coleman Breakthrough Scholarship, said “The FTI course was a brilliant introduction into the world of film making
and I’ve learnt so much about which crew roles I’d best be suited for in the future”.
Both filmmakers plan to continue their independent pathway into the industry by starting their own production businesses and making local films and documentaries.
“It’s fantastic to see the passion and commitment of these two entrepreneuring filmmakers,” said FTI CEO, Graeme Sward, “They’ve already realised the power of collaboration in this industry and we wish them continuing success in their future careers”.
