FTI Staff Cuts - Announcement

It is with a sense of sadness that FTI announces that, on Friday October 31st, we had to let four of our staff go.

The former staff affected are Jos Gibson – Business Manager; Michael Ellis – Marketing Manager; Lynda Doulas – Production Support Manager; and Matt de Byl – Customised Training Program Manager.  Between them, they logged over 20 years of experience at FTI and all made significant contributions to FTI and the broader screen sector in their time with us.  We wish them well in their future endeavours.

Art Gallery of WA and FTI team up to preserve WA’s Indigenous Art

Two projects designed to assist Indigenous West Australians preserve and maintain ownership of their culture have joined together to film interviews with leading Indigenous artists from the Kimberley.

The Art Gallery of WA’s (AGWA) Desert River Sea: Kimberley Art Then & Now is a six-year research program to map current and emerging Kimberley Aboriginal art practices. The program is supported by principal corporate partner Rio Tinto.

FTI have engaged multi award winning sound designer, Ric Curtin to share his extensive knowledge with emerging WA screen practitioners in a new six-week short course.
 
Titled, “Essential Film Sound with Ric Curtin” the course will run every Tuesday evening from 28 October to 2 December at FTI in the State Library of WA.

FTI Announces Funding & More to Develop WA Games Industry

FTI has announced it will provide the only funding in Australia available to WA games makers as part of the organisation’s new games program that was launched today.
 
The funding will come through access to FTI’s One Off Member’s Production Fund (OOMPF) that offers two $5,000 grants and one $10,000 grant to encourage and develop emerging creative teams. Both game and film makers, who are members of FTI, will be eligible to apply for the next round of OOMPF funding, which is expected to open in late 2014.

New Laws Get Filmmakers Flying

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has proposed changes to the regulations governing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (or drones) to allow smaller (sub 2kg) aircraft to be operated commercially without a license. 
 
Whilst these small aircraft might only be able to carry a GoPro, low budget productions will now be able to achieve the type of shots that were previously exclusive to large scale, commercial productions.

FTI is seeking expressions of interest from Producers to take part in film pitching competition, PITCHFACE to win a trip to the Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Conference in Melbourne.
 
The PITCHFACE winner will receive a one day entry to the annual SPA Conference and $1000 towards airfares and accommodation from FTI.
 
At the SPA Conference they will be able to pitch their film projects to industry investors as part of the Holding Redlich Pitching Competition.
