Revel-8 Calls The Curious
24 March 2010
Film Festivals
The Revel-8 Super 8 Film Fest is just gearing up for another massive year after two sell-out sessions in 2009. Be a part of the unique creative explosion that is Revel-8 by starting with this year’s theme of CURIOSITY.
It’s human nature to inquire and question, so this year Revel-8 invites filmmakers to be inquisitive and explore quirky, weird and downright curious characters, stories and styles, on a single cartridge of Super-8 film.
“Curiosity is the creative force of the universe,” says Revel-8 Director and ECU Lecturer Keith Smith. “And you couldn’t find a more curious lot than Super 8 filmmakers!”
Filmmakers resident in Australia are invited to respond creatively and innovatively to the theme of CURIOSITY, and to explore the genres of drama, documentary, experimental and animation. Films must be shot in sequence on just one cartridge of Super 8 film lasting three and a half minutes – no processing allowed!
All you have to do is shoot the film … Revel 8 will process it and the enormously talented music composition students at the WA Academy of Performing Arts will compose and record music soundtracks for the best 20 films.
Everything will come together at the Astor cinema on Friday 9 July 2010 as part of Perth’s awesome Revelation Film Festival. As always, there’ll be awards presented on the night including Best Film, Best Music Soundtrack, Audience Choice Award and more!
This year will also be a tribute to the passing of the fabulous Kodachrome 40 Super 8 film with its legendary and soulful saturated colour tones. Processing will cease at the end of 2010, so if you’re sitting on some old stock, shoot it now and add to the spectacle of Revel-8.
As a special incentive, prepaying your registration fee will earn you a super-8 cartridge at no additional cost (while stocks last).
Email super8guru@gmail.com to reserve your stock – (There’s even a little Kodachrome!)
