'Sprawl' successful in the Door Post Film Project

13 June 2008

Organisation

‘Sprawl’ a short film written and produced by Mike Hoath and directed by Maziar Lahooti has been selected as a finalist in the US based ‘Door Post Film Project’.

The team created the film back in 2006 for a local film competition but it was not successful, this year they realised that its themes of corporate greed were perfectly suited for the US.

The film has made it into the competition’s final 15, which allows them to proceed to the second stage of the competition. All 15 filmmaking teams will now be given US$10,000 to create a new film based on the theme of ‘hope’. While Lahooti has flown into Nashville, Tennessee to collect the prize cheque, Hoath has begun thinking of ideas for the new film.

The pressure is on though, the team only have to late August to complete and submit their new film. The 15 ‘hope’ films will then be judged with the winner walking away with a massive US$100,000 prize.

The team’s success in the ‘Door Post Film Project’ continues a year of achievements for both Lahooti and Hoath. Earlier in the year Lahooti was named WA Young Filmmaker of the Year at the WA Screen Awards, meanwhile Mike Hoath’s latest film ‘Dogs Run Loose Around Here’ has been gaining positive reviews and encouraging feedback from the local industry.
