AWGIE Nomination for WA Screenwriter

24 June 2010

Organisation

The 43rd AWGIE Awards are taking place on Friday, 20 August in Melbourne this year, and FTI Member Magdalena Wozniak has been nominated for her screenplay, Stuffed. The AWGIE Awards, presented by the Australian Writers’ Guild’s, recognise excellence in screen, television, stage and radio writing.

A WA Screen Award winning screenplay, Stuffed is a quirky tale centring around Margot, an old fashioned girl who lives alone with a horde of stuffed toys, that become her surrogate children. The nomination is a great achievement for a student script, written by Wozniak when she attended the WA Screen Academy. Directed by Oyvind Opshaug and produced by Alex Giles, the film features a cast of WAAPA graduates including Jennifer White, Shannon Rae, Adele Querol and Lizzie Schebesta.

Scriptwriters for WA productions Addicted to Money and Lockie Leonard have also secured nominations, for Documentary: Public Broadcast and Children’s Television: C Classification respectively. As well as this, WA ex-pats Ian Meadows and Sarah Shaw (co-writers for the AFI nominated short Water ) have been nominated for their work on the short film, A Parachute Falling in Siberia.
