Best of The West Screens with Movie Extra Tropfest
18 February 2010
Animation Centre
Australia’s most prestigious short film festival and one of its most iconic cultural events, Movie Extra Tropfest, is back this weekend at Bohemia Outdoor Cinema screening the 16 finalist films selected from an entry pool of an average 650 annual entries and competing for more than $150,000 in prizes.
FTI will also screen The Best of The West, a program of WA films from the Top 50 finalists. Some well know filmmakers are represented so expect these films to be of a high standard and to offer added value to your Tropfest experience. Programme below.
From WA, FTI graduate Julia Ngeow with her animated short, All Work & No Play came in the Tropfest Top 20, in the Mobile Masterpieces category. Featuring music from local outfit , Injured Ninja, All Work & No Play tells the tale of an ambitious high flyer, Sinbad Fingleberry Faxy Jax Milanee, which the director says is based loosely around her own “quarter life crisis”.
Recognising the change in technologies and the opportunities this presents to filmmakers, the mobile category is seen as a natural extension of short film story telling. Julia shot the film on a 3G iPhone, edited in Photoshop, animated in MacromediaFlash, and video edited in Sony Vegas.
Tropfest will be held at Bohemia Outdoor Cinema, Princess May Park, Fremantle on Sunday the 21st February 2010.
The Best of the West Screening will take place in the FTI Cinema at 5:30pm prior to the main screening of the Top 16 at 7:30pm.
Entry is by donation, ($5 recommended)
