FTI to research creativity in the screen industry

5 April 2009

Short Courses

Graeme Watson, Professional Development and Training Manager at The Film & Television Institute has been awarded a Communities of Practice Research Scholarship from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).

The scholarship allows leading vocational trainers to tackle industry challenges through research backed by a supportive community of experts, peers and mentors.

With the support of the scholarship Graeme will be researching the creative processes that are utilised within the Australian Screen Industry and then applying these findings to the development of training programs offered at the Institute.

Graeme Watson noted,

“Across all industries the value of creativity is being recognised as major ingredient in innovation.

The new Screen and Media training package that is now being offered at vocational institutions across Australia recognises that creativity is essential part of all positions in the screen industry whether you’re in a technical, administrative or a creative position.

This research will allow trainers to know more specific information about how creativity is integrated into the everyday working of screen practitioners, which will allow us to make job-ready graduates.”

The Film & Television Institute has a long history in forging new ground in both the production and training realms and often is an early adopter of new technologies, teaching methodologies and work practices.

The project will begin in April 2009 and will be completed in early 2010.
