Making Movies Roadshow…It’s a Wrap For 2008!

In March 2008 FTI appointed a new MMR Coordinator, Daniel Balint. Daniel has extensive experience working with Indigenous communities and remote area operational logistics, is experienced in all aspects of business management and is an experienced filmmaker.

The MMR has maintained its strong reputation amongst both regional communities and the filmmaking community. This year Anthony Hanson (DOP Postcards WA, Till 3 Knocks) and Melissa Hayward (McClouds Daughter’s, The Circuit) joined the MMR crew as Filmmaking Tutors and coordinators. Having these experienced filmmakers on the Roadshow continued to bring high quality workshops to the selected regional communities, and offered Melissa and Anthony an opportunity to get back to a hands-on environment as well as an opportunity to impart their skills of filmmaking to new storytellers.

The 2008 MMR program visited eight remote and regional communities in different regions throughout Western Australia as follows:

Kimberley Region: From the 7th July through to the 18th July we visited Burdekin Youth In Action in Broome and Djarindjin – Lombadina Communities on the Dampier Peninsula.

Pilbara Region: From the 18th – 22nd August we travelled to the town of Exmouth facilitating the workshop with the Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre (ECAC). From the 15th – 26th September the MMR crew visited Jigalong Aboriginal Community in the western desert and The Yaandina Youth Centre in the town if Roebourne.

Mid West Region: From the 27th – 31st November we visited the Mullewa Youth Centre in the town of Mullewa.
