Making Movies Roadshow
The Film & Television Institute (FTI) is looking for great community stories and passionate future filmmakers for the 2009 MAKING MOVIES ROADSHOW.
The MAKING MOVIES ROADSHOW is FTI’s annual touring program that provides digital filmmaking workshops and outdoor screening events to remote communities across regional Western Australia.
Applications have closed for 2009. Stay tuned for tour updates.
The five-day filmmaking workshops are run by a team of three FTI professional filmmakers who provide hands-on training in camera, sound and editing skills to youth and adult participants. Three short films, including dramas, documentaries, music clips or animations, are made during the workshops, which culminate with a fun outdoor community screening at the end of the week.
The Roadshow films are also screened to metropolitan audiences and many are broadcast nationally on the NITV network.
“Since 2003, the Roadshow has taught over 600 people how to make movies and produced 150 short films that are uniquely West Australian” said FTI CEO, Graeme Sward.
“The Roadshow workshops encourage people living in regional communities to discover filmmaking as a way of recording and sharing their stories and culture with a wider audience and future generations,” he said.
Previous Roadshow participant, Dave Wells, of Punmu in the Pilbara, said the response to the filmmaking workshop had been extremely positive for the participants and the whole community.
“All the kids seemed so eager to learn, it’s like nothing that I have experienced – Making Movies Roadshow magic or something!” he said.
Their short film “Welcome to Punmu” was selected for the Over the Fence national film festival and toured throughout Australia screening at 40 festival locations.
The MAKING MOVIES ROADSHOW is supported by ScreenWest, Lotterywest, NITV and Woodside Energy and there are eight week-long workshops available in 2009. The workshops are heavily subsidised through the partnerships, but there is a $4,000 workshop fee for each community and potential funding sources can be recommended.
Communities interested in having a filmmaking workshop visit their regional location should download the application form and details at www.fti.asn.au or contact the MMR Coordinator, Daniel Balint, at the Film & Television Institute on (08) 9431 6700.
