I thought we should start these forums off with a bang, so here's a controvertial topic.

What makes a West Australian story? Is it simply being set here, or is it something less tangiable. Is there a West Australian voice?

WA has a growing history of not funding films that are based here - 'Rabbit Proof Fence', 'Lucky Miles', 'Home Song Stories' and the wait and see example -'Two Fists, One Heart'.

What are the qualities of a West Australian story?

I think it's the characters. If the characters are from West Australia you can set them anywhere in the world, but essentially it's a West Australian story because it's told from that viewpoint.

it's both... never forget "shame" and deborah lee furness... filmed in perth... america tried to remake it and failed...
we've got heath ledger and sam worthington...
if you're a writer... look through WA's history.. find a story.. ralph harris' life as a perth boy...
look around at the city... it has a magic that can't be duplicated... just saying!
