Shooting or finishing? I can't claim a lot of experience in 'marketing' a film but better looking is always better looking. If we're talking about festivals, probably most of them haven't gone bluray as yet so you'll still have to make regular dvds if you want widespread coverage. But downscaling is always better than upscaling

At the moment the majority of festivals screen on Digi Beta/ SP Beta but many niche festivals prefer DVD. The high end festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice screen on film. So the medium you shoot on isn't necessarily the best medium to screen on. Additionally, nearly all the festivals want to see screeners on DVD so you need to consider finishing onto a variety of formats if you are looking to market your film to a wide range of festivals.
