David Bradbury Masterclass - Presented by Central Institute of Technology
21 April 2012
- Time:
- 10am - 3pm
Keep the Camera Rolling, No Matter What
Following on from a month long showcase of his films at ACMI in Melbourne, David Bradbury is coming to Perth to share some trade secrets in a very rare Masterclass.
Titled “Keep The Camera Rolling No Matter What”, a quote from Neil Davis, the legendary wartime cameraman, and focus of Bradbury’s Oscar nominated film, Frontline, Bradbury offers audiences the benefit of his 35 years of hard earned experience. The seminar will be a practical hands-on discussion, covering the technical and philosophical aspects of Bradbury’s filmmaking style, while looking at some of his best work from Frontline right through to My Asian Heart.
Some amazing exclusive footage to be shown includes excerpts from Neil Davis’s work for Visnews and NBC. Davis caught the footage of the first North Vietnamese tank crashing through the gates of the Presidential Palace signalling the end of the Vietnam War. Always in the thick of the action alongside the soldiers, you will also see footage from when Davis continued to film the death of a South Vietnamese soldier, who was shot while Neil was making a documentary about him. Neil lived and died by his own credo. When mortally wounded in a Thai military coup in Bangkok in 1985, Davis slumped over in front of his camera, racked the lens to a wide angle, which then recorded his own death as he fell over in front of the camera and was dragged away.
