Something unique is happening in India’s prisons, something that is affecting penal systems around the world.
This award-winning documentary is a story of how hope came to one of the most notorious prisons in the world, Tihar Jail in New Delhi. It is the story of India’s first female Inspector General of Prisons, Kiran Bedi, and how she dared to fight for genuine rehabilitation of the thousands under her care. Most of all, it is the story of the prison inmates themselves and the profound changes they underwent through the practice of Vipassana meditation.
This ancient technique is now travelling beyond Indian borders. It is already being implimented in other major prisons in the United States, England, Europe, Israel, Thailand, Taiwan and New Zealand with dramatic results. And today with around 120 Vipassana centres worldwide, more than 100,000 people are completing the 10-day Vipassana course each year. So it’s not just prisoners who are benefiting from this unique experience.
