Did you see ABC News breakfast?

Acording to the official OzTam Figures nobody in Perth tuned in this week for the debut of the new ABC breakfast news program.

Nationally only 8000 people were watching, so maybe SUNRISE and TODAY can sleep easy?

As this is a program only available on ABC2, the Digital Channel it's potential audience is severly less than the commercial brands.   However there are a few things the show could learn from their commercial counterparts.

Officially I didn't see the show on Monday, but in reality I tuned in and watched it simulteneously in three places, online I can see the show 'live', on FOXTEL I can see the show on a one hour delay, and on Free to Air Digital it's on a two hour delay due to the time difference.

Watching the show on line - 'live' was captivating, they broke the story of bombs going off in Indonesia on air - ages before the commercial networks had it.   That was a moment of promise.

The in-depth discussion about the newspapers was great, but at other times they seemed to spent way to long on a story.   In the morning I'm making coffee, doing the ironing, going to have a shower, talking to the dog, checking email.   I need news coverage that is going at the same pace, i kept fidning myself sitting down and watching the news - which is very couter productive to what I'm trying to actually achieve overall.

I thought there would be more linkages to ABC Radio, I mean you would hope I left my television and went out to my car and continued on with the ABC for the next 45 minutes while I drive to work.

There is no clock!   I need to know the time.

Virginia Triolli and Barry Cassidy don't have Mel and Kochy chemistry - and that's OK, I just think Barry should give Virginina a bit more space on the couch - it looks like a 70/30 split at the moment.

I really like that there was no camp gossip guy!

Check out ABC News Breakfast and let us know what you think.

I enjoyed this. I think ABC has a winner with News Breakfast. The only loss is that it's somewhat hidden on the digital channel. The lack of a clock is slightly annoying, but since they have a delayed telecast in central and western time zones any clock they had would always be wrong somewhere (even if it was a rotating clock like the one on Sky).

The viewer figures were disappointing, but I think the ABC has made the right move with this show, it's a breath of fresh air and great morning viewing.

It just demonstrates how FUBARed the OzTAM figures are. I watched but I don't count because I'm not part of the survey.
