Byte Club: Big Screen Wii

| | Comments (0)
The rise of the multi-screen megaplex has seen the single screen cinema become a thing of the past, so what do you do with a giaganitc cinema screen in 2008.   Here's one fun past time,

Our fun new event 'Byte Club' is running on Monday nights for 10 weeks, Wii on the big screen was fun, I was good at Tennis but awful at Super Mario Cart. Next week we'll be going all retro with a SNES.

Wordle

Take a look at Wordle, this new sites takes your words and puts them into a visual configuration.    The image below is the tags in my del.icio.us account.   In a single moment you can see what I'm interested in.   It's quite a relief to see that 'Film Television Animation Web Media Business' is what my primary interest is.

Tagging and Tag Clouds are nothing new online but I like the speed of this service.   Wordle also allows you take a large chunk of text and it'll create a visualisation based on the most commonly used words.

Here are a few examples;

The Minisode

Back in June last year we highlighted the rise of the Minisode as old episodes of 'Charlie's Angels' were cut down to five minutes and used as interstitual content on television.   It turns out you can put the whole plot of an hour of 1970's TV into 5 minutes of new millenium televison.

Since the British TV show 'Skins' have used minisodes to their advantage by creating additional scenes for each episode that can be seen online or on the series DVD release.

Now US show 'Rescue Me' has kep audiences interested while the show catches up after the recent Writer's Strike by releasing a series of minisodes.

It makes me wonder what shows I would like to see just a little more of during their off season, or maybe scattered into little 5 minute segements throughout the week.   It would really well for a sitcom or a mystery.

Still Thinking About Greenaway

I was quite impresseed by Peter Greenaway's speech earlier this year at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC). It's something I keep thinking about as the months go by. If you didn't get a chance to see his speech, you can watch it online through the DOCOPLANET site.
