SCOUTA, a new site for bookmarking video and your favorite spots on the web has just been launched. I haven't had a good chance to look at it yet, cause I'm in a NetCafe in Adelaide, but go take a look.
Richard Giles, CEO and Founder of SCOUTA is going to be speaking at FTI next Tuesday at the 'Not New Media, Now Media!' seminar alongside Bronwyn Clunes from PERTH NORG, Kate Rothschild of MTV Networks and Matt Morgan from IN8VISIONMEDIA. Come down and join us as we talk all things New Media.... or all things NOW Media.
World Screen report some recent research that inidicates that a large percentage of the YouTube audience would switch off if advertisisments were included before the clips.
I wonder if there is a big difference between people saying they wouldn't watch if there were ads, an actually not watching. The challenge for YouTube is to secure the content - attach the revenue generator, advertising and then shut the door before any other video sharing sites can copy them. If they can get the content providers onboard - they will then have a powerful partnership interested in suing everyone else who posts an unauthorised clip.
YouTube recognises that while user generated content makes up a large percentage of their traffic, the other half that is copyright protected content from other sources is also a key ingredient in their success. They are rapidly trying to secure deals that will save them from massive law suits and generating revenue - finding a business model that will work is essential.

Over at Digital Media is the New Black, Peter Giles from AFTRS and LAMP is recovering from another of those industry pow-wow sessions where everything is de-ja-vu. He calls for a thinking that is platform agnostic - and it makes you wonder why aren't all the funding programs and opportunities in the world platform agnostic?
