Head of the AFTRS Malcolm Long is coming to Perth to give a lecture on 'Navigating the Digital Market Place'. What impact has digital technology and media convergence had on the production and delivery of screen content? How will it change our industries? Malcolm has strong views about what key characteristics will be needed for productions to succeed in the fast changing, digital audiovisual environment. He argues that major changes are needed if the Australian independent screen production sector is to be creatively and commercially successful in the future. He is in a good position from which to speculate about what these changes mean for screen producers, and how they will need to shape their own careers and operate their businesses. Malcolm Long began his media career in Perth. Since then he has had a wide ranging career in broadcasting and the Australian screen industries, including as a consultant in media and digital communications strategy. He was Managing Director of SBS from 1993-98 where he established SBS Independent and the World Movies subscription TV channel. He was Director of ABC Radio and then Deputy Managing Director of the ABC. He is a Member of the broadcasting & telecoms regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority. He has been a producer and network manager in broadcasting and has spoken and written widely on the impact of new media and communications technologies on content development, production and delivery. Please RSVP email tom.lubin@aftrs.edu.au Where: Social Science Lecture Theatre, University of Western Australia When: Tuesday, 6 June, 6:15pm Parking: Off Hackett St, Entry 1, Parking lot P3 or P4 The presentation with discussion will run for about 90 minutes
In an Australian first you can now download episodes of a television program straight from a TV station, rather than the more dubious bit-torrent sites or  Your Tube cut-ups.   Channel 9 is offering episodes of 'McCleod's daughters'  for just AUD$1.95.

Now this is my big question... is their a big market for online episodes of 'McCleod's Daughters'?
