Looking into the making of 'Cloverfield'

| | Comments (0)
'Cloverfield' has been a film that polarises people's opinions, some of us love it, others were not so anamoured.

Earlier this week I had no car for a few days, which is frustrating, but on the bright side I got to catch up on lots of podcasts during my long comute.

One podcast I listed to was writer Drew Goddard talking about his career, working his way up from being a writer's assistant to working on shows like 'Alias' and 'Lost'.    His first feature is 'Cloverfield' and listening about the writing process of this film was very intriguing.   The Creative Screenwriting podcasts are really great, if you have even the slightest interest in writing for the screen you will find some valuable information within them.

Another interesting 'Cloverfield' related item is the web site of Visual Effects Company Double Negative who have some behind the scenes footage that shows what went into making this ambitious film.

On Thursday night hundreds of members of the local filmmaking community turned out for the premiere screening of Patrick Herford's new film 'Hollywood Sign Girls'.   The film is a 50 minute black and white, noir styled, tale of Hollywood starlets.

The premiere of the film was at the Luna Cinema in Leederville and was introduced by the teams mentor Melanie Rodriga who brought a moment of Australian culture to the evening by reciting some adapted Banjo Patterson.   Prior to the sceening Director Patrick Herford thanked the crew members who had all worked on a volunteer basis to bring this ambitious film to the screen.

Seen at the event were filmmaker Jimmy the Exploder, Sound Specialist Richard Mahony, Clint Lawrence who was taking a moments rest from his unit duties on the hectic shoot of 'Two Fists, One Heart', local Director Zak Hilditch, Author and outspoken bi-sexuality advocate Alan Kane - twin brother of FTI's Phil Jeng Kane who was in town for the night (my goodness talk about identical twins!), Documentary makers Alison James and bRitt Arthur, Projectionist Nick McRobbie, the Screen Academy's John Rapsey, Editor Heny Inglis, the multi-talented Noah Norton, Liz Sederisd and Liz Kearney, animator Pierce Davision, composer Alex Ringis and hundreds more.

Ridley Scott revisits 'Blade Runner' again

| | Comments (0)
WIRED have a great interview with Director Ridley Scott in which he talks about the new version of his film 'Blade Runner' that will be coming out towards the end of the year in a 5 disc DVD release.    This will be the third version of the film following on from the original release and the 1990's 'Director's Cut' release.

Unlike many directors cut's 'Blade Runner' is a film that is getting continually shorter with each revisit.    Blade Runner is an interesting film to re-watch as the predictions of the future become more reality than fantasy and the topics addressed seem far more relevant today than they were in the early 1980's.

On the WIRED site you can listed to the full interview as well.

There is also an article in the NEW YORK TIMES
