The Video Production students at FTI have just wrapped up filming four short drama films in just four weeks.   The most recent of these is the short film 'Car Park', the team faced some extra challenges as the weather turned against them, adding some additional pressure.

Pretty cool home movie with a Canon HD20

This short film from US teenager Kyle Shields has certainly been getting some attention online in the last week.   The film is shot with a Canon HD20 home movie camera with a 35 mm lens added onto the front of the camera.  Some good colour grading and After Effects work complete the piece.   Find out more about this technique here.

More 'Metropolis'

| | Comments (0)
Twenty five lost minutes of Fritz Lang's classic 1927 film 'Metropolis' have been discovered in Argentina and authenticated in Germany.

The Revelation Perth International Film Festival presented the most update cut of this film two years ago and it's was an amazing presentation.   They predict it will take a few years to restore the newly discovered footage.   With the added footage not only will 'Metropolis' be epic in style but also length, stretvhing out over 2 hours in length.

Zac Toons Team visit FTI

| | Comments (0)
Last night the team from Zac Toons visited FTI and we got a great turnout at the event with nearly 40 people coming along to meet the newest Animation company in Perth.   This creative team set up and developed their business in London but have recently returned home to Australia.

Managing Director Troy Zafar provided everyone with an overview of the type of content that Zac Toons have found success with, and there were some really funny pieces amongst their massive collection of characters and concepts.   Zac Toons have found success by creating content for mobile platforms but have begun to move into television and most recently the area of television series.

It was really interesting to see the kind of humour that works in the mobile phone market, much edgier and risk taking than the humour of traditional broadcast platforms.   It made you wonder if it would be challenging for writers in Perth who develop their skills in the shadow of the huge children's TV sector to break out of the C classified mould as more and more adult focussed content begins to be produced in Western Australia.

The majority of Zac Toons content is flash animation, but they also had a brilliant property in 'Monster Band' that was all 3D animation.    Most of the time in Perth 3D animators are more in demand than 2D flash animators, but given the recent announcement of 'Dogstar 2', the arrival of Zac Toons and several other flash based projects in various stages of development, the future is looking good for flash animators too.
