The Marcel Trilogy screened to a full house with more than one hundred local filmmakers and friends attending to celebrate the premiere screening of the black comedy series. Filmmakers Wade K Savage and Stuart MacKenzie and DOP Stewart Hadfield were in attendance to answer audience questions on the film's unique look, the genre short, funding and marketing, comedy and casting.

Post screening guests filled the smoke-fill cocktail lounge in the FTI hall to drink with the cast and crew.

Local Focus is FTI’s new screening program that highlights local films and investigates the filmmaking process with a post screening Q&A.

I’ve been spending a lot of time online lately reading celebrity blogs.  It appeals to the voyeur in me.  Some of them are clearly just there to get you to buy their CD, film, t-shirt, but some of them make you appreciate celebrities just that little bit more for their entertainment value.

Bec and Lleyton issued a joint statement on their website www.lleytonandbechewitt.com/ hitting out at tabloid journalism.  They also each have separate blogs where you can read gems like “He is such a great baby! Pretty easy to get to sleep and full of smiles – which absolutely melts you to bits!!” (Bec blogging on baby Cruz).  It’s as if they want to remind us they’re real people with real feelings.

I’m also enjoying www.tamradaviscookingshow.com.  On this site, we can peer into the life of television director Tamra Davis and her Beastie Boy husband Mike D as well as learning how to cook nutritious meals for our family.  I just wish she’d get Mike D to narrate the cooking videos.

John Mayer uses his blog www.johnmayer.com/blog to share his love of baking.  He even held an ‘Interfaith Baking Contest’ for his fans, to celebrate the joy of expression through baking.  I’m all for joy, so I’ve decided to launch FTI’s ‘Crap Craft Contest’.  You can bake, collage, draw, sculpt, knit – pretty much make anything you like that can be considered ‘craft’ and send a photo to me at screenevents@fti.asn.au along with a description in 25 words or less why your craft project makes the world a better place.  The best entry will win six rolls of Crumpler toilet paper.

To end on, here’s my favorite John Mayer quote:  "Let us not forget that material goods make people happy, and nothing makes someone happier than walking into things on Christmas morning because you can't stop staring at your new timepiece."
