Board

The FTI board usually meet on the fourth Thursday of every month and the AGM is held annually in the last week of April. If you have any issues you would like to bring to the attention of the board please address correspondence to FTI General Manager, Murray Reynish and FTI Chair, Lisa Bradock c/- FTI.

Profile of Board members as elected / appointed at FTI’s AGM held on 22 April 2009:

  • Lisa Bradock

    Chair

    Lisa Bradock (Chair) was first elected to the Board at the 1999 AGM and was re-elected for a fifth two-year term at the 2007 AGM. She was first elected Chair in October 2000 and has retained that position since then as well as being a member of the Board Executive/ Finance Committee and a Director of FTI’s film production company, Excalibur Productions.

    Lisa has had several years’ experience of FTI both as an employee and a Board member. She brings to the Board a variety of skills and experiences, particularly relating to business and people management. Lisa has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from UWA, and has an employment background including not-for-profit associations, corporate and local government. Until recently, Lisa served as Chief Executive Officer of Netball WA, a sporting association with similar structures and issues to those of the FTI.

  • Marjolein Towler

    Deputy Chair

    Marjolein Towler (Deputy Chair) was elected to the FTI Board at the AGM in June 2000 and was re-elected for a fifth term at the April 2008 AGM. Marjolein was elected Deputy Chair in October 2000 and has retained that position since then as well as being a member of the Board Executive/Finance Committee. She has been an FTI member since 1989 and previously served a two-year term on the FTI Board in the early 1990’s.

    Marjolein has 21 years as Director of her own interactive media production company, Consultas, with a client base from both the Corporate and Public Sectors. In addition, she has extensive experience in teaching and training development and delivery as well as the development of operations management and project management systems. She was the inaugural Co-Chair of the Bachelor of Multimedia undergraduate degree programme at the School of Media, Communication and Culture, Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia, from July 1998 until July 2000 where she developed the course from an industry perspective with emphasis on the communication aspects of digital media technologies. She was a Director of Imago Multimedia Centre CMC from 1999 to 2002, including a period as Acting Managing Director.

    Besides running her own business, she is the Treasurer and Chair for 2008 of Women are I.T. WA (Inc.), a not for profit networking organisation that encourages female participation in Information Communication Technology (ICT) industries. Marjolein brings extensive experience in education and digital production environments as well as business to the Board.

  • Jeremy Emms

    Director

    Jeremy Emms was appointed to the Board in January 2007 and has been reappointed annually since then – the latest following the April 2008 AGM. Jeremy was born in Scarborough, England, obtained a degree in Geography at Leicester University, worked for twelve years in sales and marketing for two major international communications groups before migrating to Australia in 1999. Since moving to WA he has worked in direct marketing, traditional advertising and online as an Account Director for a number of major clients. In 2003 Jeremy established his own consulting business and now spends his time helping businesses grow domestically and internationally.

    Jeremy’s other interests involve participation in a number of voluntary educational and sporting support organisations. He became acquainted with FTI through friends’ participation and personal observation and is looking forward to helping FTI grow through using his networking, marketing and sales skills.

  • Chris James

    Director

    Chris James was appointed to the FTI Board on 22 October 2009 to fill a casual vacancy. He was part of the FTI’s Members’ Production Group for several years performing a variety of roles, including producing, writing, sound recording and acting. Chris has been involved in several short film projects over the past four years producing and co-writing Blind and Asphalt & Lace, which were both funded through FTI’s 50/50 initiative. Blind is still in post-production whilst Asphalt & Lace was aired at the Action on Film Festival 2009 in Pasadena, California. He was also involved in the short film Chess, a Raw Nerve funded production which won the People’s Choice award at the Melbourne Short Film Festival 2007 and is now a part of the Memory Lane database in the Australian Centre of Moving Image.

    Chris has a background in IT working as a web developer and support officer, but has recently returned to university to study law. He has attained a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in IT. He has also participated in a conservation project in Costa Rica with International Student Volunteers, protecting critically endangered turtles and has been a member of the Wilderness Society’s Action Group. He hopes to bring his energy, experiences and resourcefulness to the Board.

  • Cassie Rowe

    Director

    Cassie Rowe was appointed to the FTI Board in January 2007, elected for a one-year term at the 2007 AGM and for a two-year term at the April 2008 AGM. She graduated in FTI’s Screenwriting Diploma in December 2006. Cassie is currently employed by Police & Nurses Financial Planning as a Financial Planner. In this capacity, one of her key responsibilities is the development and provision of specialised, technical advice and strategic financial solutions to assist clients with their financial needs. Her previous employment was with the Bendigo Bank financial planning division, in a highly technical role. In addition, she has worked in Parliament House in Canberra with the then Shadow Minister for Finance, Senator Stephen Conroy.

    Cassie has a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, as well as a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) at the Securities Institute of Australia, a Real Estate Agent’s Representative course at RMIT University, and she is currently undertaking the final subject of an Advanced Diploma of Finance.

    Cassie is very passionate about the Film and Television industry in Australia, in particular, the preservation and representation of our culture via these mediums going forward. She hopes to make a valuable contribution to the FTI as a Board member and ensure that we continue in our endeavours to promote a local industry.

  • David Smith

    Director

    David Smith was appointed to the FTI Board in January 2007 and was elected for a two-year term at the 2007 AGM. In February 2006 he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. David holds degrees in Law and Commerce (with a double major in Accounting and Finance) from the University of Western Australia and in November 2006 he completed a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television at Curtin University. Since June 2007 he has been employed as a corporate lawyer at a legal practice in the Perth Central Business District. He was previously employed as an Academic at Curtin University’s Business Law School.

    David recently finished co-producing a short dramatic film entitled Legacy, which received production finance in December 2006 through FTI’s LINK Production Initiative. David’s other interests include serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the WA Youth Theatre Company.

    David brings to the Board a broad range of legal, accounting, financial, educational, film production, entrepreneurial and management experience and is looking forward to applying these skills to help the Institute further develop and prosper in the future.

  • Graeme Sward

    Chief Executive Officer

    Graeme Sward (Chief Executive Officer) was appointed as a voting member of the Board when he commenced employment as CEO during September 1999. He is a member of the Board Executive/Finance Committee and also the FTI Alumni Committee.

    Graeme has had extensive experience in the broadcasting industry as a Director, Producer and Executive Director, starting his career in 1974. Immediately prior to joining FTI he was a contract Executive Producer for the ABC in Perth and also served for a period on the FTI Board. Graeme is a Director of Excalibur Productions (FTI’s production company) and he served as a Director of ScreenWest for three years from 2001 until 2004. Graeme was also the series Director of the Mary G Show 2, which screened on SBS Television early in 2002 and he had an involvement for a period as a Director of Access 31 Community Television. He is passionate about FTI and what it represents and has seen the organisation grow and expand under his direction.

  • James Turnbull

    Director

    James Turnbull was appointed to the FTI Board in September 2008. James, who grew up and lives in the Fremantle area, holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Finance from the University of Western Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder.

    James is currently a Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Mergers and Acquisitions team that provide corporate advice in relation to business sales, acquisitions, capital raisings and corporate restructures. James has over 8 years experience in the investment banking industry, including 12 months working in London in 2007, and brings a range of accounting, financial, legal and managerial capabilities to the FTI board.

  • Angel Barrio

    ex officio Advisor

    Angel was appointed to the Board in August 2000 and he was re-appointed annually by the Board until he resigned due to work ant other pressures in August 2008. He served in the role of Treasurer up until the 2005 AGM when that specific role was abolished as a consequence of a revision to the Constitution, but he continued to perform the function of Finance Director as a member of the FTI Board Executive/Finance Committee.

    Angel has been a Chartered Accountant for 12 years and a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers for almost two years where he heads the Perth Mergers and Acquisitions team that specialise in project managing and providing corporate advice in relation to business acquisitions, divestments, management buy-outs, public floats and corporate restructures. He is also a member of the Finance Committee for the Western Australian Art Gallery and a past lecturer for both the Securities Institute of Australia and the University of Western Australia.

    Angel is not a member of FTI. His involvement is in a personal capacity, bringing his expertise in financial management coupled with an interest in the film and television industry. While Angel is no longer an FTI Board member he has agreed to continue his involvement with FTI in an honorary consultative role.
