About FTI
The Film & Television Institute is the premier professional development centre for independent screen production & events in Western Australia.
A member of Screen Development Australia, FTI provides an alternative pathway to the film and television industry through education, exhibition, equipment and production resources and is supported by its membership, corporate partners, ScreenWest and Screen Australia.
FTI achieves its mission of developing an innovative and diverse screen culture in Western Australia through the following range of activities, services and events.
Production Support, Grants & Advice
- FTI offers production support and advice to independent screen industry practitioners.
- FTI annually funds and coordinates a number of production grants ranging from $2,000 to $70,000.
Nationally Recognised Training
- FTI is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and offers nationally recognised training in Screen Production, Screenwriting, Animation and Screen Acting.
Professional Development
- FTI coordinates numerous professional development short courses, industry seminars, introductory filmmaking workshops and youth holiday programs.
Animation Training & Industry Development
- FTI established the Animation Centre in 2001 as a community of creative practice for established and emerging animation specialists in Western Australia.
Regional Filmmaking Workshops
- FTI’s annual Making Movies Roadshow program travels to remote regional communities each year teaching digital video filmmaking skills workshops and holding outdoor cinema screenings.
FTI Bookshop
- Specialising in filmmaking, animation, screenwriting and production titles.
Facilities & Equipment Hire
- FTI offers competitive hire rates on a full range of production equipment. Facilities include production suites, recording studios, an animation drawing lab, the 120-seat FTI cinema and the BOHEMIA outdoor cinema.
Screenings & Special Events
- FTI screens a regular program of local and independent screen culture, plus annual events including the WA Screen Awards and Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival.
- FTI supports & sponsors numerous independent screen events & film festivals in WA through its Screen Culture Fund.
